Well the weather outside is frightful … so all the more reason to come inside and dance the night away. For our December fast track we’re going to be taking a look at some of the other fabulous dances of the 1920s and 30s. Whilst today “Ballroom Dancing” may conjure up images of glitter balls, sequins and impossibly rigid hair, 100 years ago it was quite normal to mix and match dances throughout the evening and even the same song!

We’ll be starting with the Social Foxtrot in week 1. (2nd December), moving to the jazzier Swing Walk in week 2 and finally the wild and wonderful Quickstep in week 3. Please note, these will not be the modern ballroom dances of the same names but the much more free and improvisational versions from the 1920s and 30s. The Quickstep in particular was a combination dance including elements of the Charleston, Collegiate shag and double time Foxtrot. Here’s a little taste https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l9Q7IO8eGc
